Before I post pictures from the retreat, I should probably explain why I’m holding a paper penguin with Greek letters on it.

If you haven’t heard of Flat Stanley, it’s basically a literacy project for elementary school students, based on a book, where you create a “Flat Stanley” out of cardstock, bring him places, write a journal for him, and then send him on to other schools with his travel log. I’m not going to journal as a penguin here, but as I am in school for elementary education, I thought this would be good practice. I chose a penguin because penguins, aside from generally being a pretty neat animal, are the mascot for my sorority, Theta Phi Alpha, which is also why he has ΘΦΑ written on his chest. I’m the only girl from my chapter abroad this semester, so I thought it would be a nice reminder of my sisters.
